Argentina 2019

Buenos Aires
Plaza de Mayo, home of the Casa Rosada (Pink House), the official residence of the President of Argentina.

Jesus picture on the back of a truck, and Edificio del Ministerio de Salud (The Building of the Ministry of Health) with Eva Peron on the north and south sides. Eva Peron was Argentina First Lady from 1946 to 1952.

Dinner and Tango show. Dinner was Argentina style, with empanadas as appetizer, steak as the main course, and flan as dessert. Plus Malbec wine. The Tango included lots of passionate dancing, with music provided by a tango style orchestra which featured accordions, piano, bass, and violins. The theater had an elevator with mirrors on the side.

Santa Susana Ranch
Day tour to Estancia Santa Susana in Los Cardales. We had tour of the ranch, Argentina style BBQ, Tango show, and horse riding.

Ushuaia
Ushuaia is the world's southernmost city, though some towns would dispute that. The city serves as a port and gateway into Patagonia. Many expedition cruises to Antarctica start in Ushuaia. The colored buildings remind me of Reykjavik, Iceland. While our flight was landing in Ushuaia, we were treated to a big rainbow.

Our hotel in Ushuaia was the Alto Andino, which sits on a hill a few blocks from the main streets. The hotel has a rooftop lounge with views of the Beagle Passage and the port, where we could see the m/v Plancius which would be our ship for our Antarctica expedition cruise.

We did a half day tour to Tierra del Fuego National Park, in the midst of the Patagonia region and Andes mountains. The park is also an end point for the Pan American highway, 19,000 mile network of highways spanning North and South America. The tour included an hour long hike through forests with views of the mountains and lakes. We also spotted mini strawberries (tasted delicious) and purple mushrooms.

We also did an off-road tour, through the Southern Andes. We rode in jeeps through the Fuegian forrest and Lake Fagnano.
