Fall Travels in Northeast US

New York City

Fall trip to New York, with visits to the new 9/11 Museum and an afternoon walk in Central Park to take in the beautiful fall colors. Also dinner with other travelers at Vino Tapas.

Philadelphia
Tour of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were both signed. This building is considered the birthplace of America. Also got close up to the liberty bell.

In the middle picture on the bottom row, the Comcast Center is the building shaped like a USB drive. It is Philadelphia's tallest building.

Washington DC - November 2014

Washington DC

The nation's capitol becomes a gorgeous array of colors in the fall, when the leaves turn. I stayed at Grand Hyatt DC, which has a direct entrance to a Metro station. I liked the indoor lagoon and river at the ground floor. My room faced the atrium and had a full view of the lagoon. In addition to touring DC, I visited 2 of my friends who lived in the area. We had dinner at Darlington House, an Italian restaurant in DuPont and saw the Veteran's concert at National Cathedral.

Visited the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon as well as a Segway tour of the National Mall and some of the nearby memorials. The fall colors add to the memorial's beauty. The Pentagon memorial is located across the section of the Pentagon that was hit by the airplane. The memorial consists of benches - one for each person who was killed in the attack.

I also visited the observation deck on top of the Washington Monument. The monument reopened earlier this year after being close for repairs following the 2011 earthquake. During the elevator ride, it slows down so you can check out the interior part of the wall, which has some artwork.

Mount Vernon Estate, where George Washington had his plantation. It includes the mansion where Washington lived, gardens, farm, and a museum. Mount Vernon is also one of the best spots near DC for fall foliage colors.
