Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon has some scenic hiking trails near Las Vegas. The trails go through canyons and red-orange rock.
We hiked Calico Tanks Trail, where we got close to the colored rocky hills which are the main features in the park. It included climbing the colored rocks. We walked near a section of purple shades - looked like berry flavored ice cream.
Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire got its name from the red rock which formed 150 million years ago. This park is relatively compact, and consists of viewpoints and short hiking trails. One day is sufficient to see all the main sites.
Some of the sites look identical to Red Rock Canyon, mainly the red-orange rocks. Unique sites include the Beehives, Arch rock, and petroglyphs which are ancient Indian art on rocks.
The Fire Wave is among the most popular sites in the park. The rocks here have red, orange, and white swirls. The end of this trail also has view of Pastel Canyon
